The Evolution: A Comprehensive History of Roblox

Roblox is an online gaming platform that has gained immense popularity over the years. It was created in 2006 by David Baszucki and Erik Cassel. Since then, Roblox has become one of the most popular gaming platforms in the world, with over 100 million monthly active users.

The history of Roblox began in 1989, when David Baszucki and Erik Cassel created a software company called Knowledge Revolution. The company created educational software, including physics simulation software called Interactive Physics. Interactive Physics became popular and was eventually acquired by MSC Software Corporation in 1998.

In 2004, Baszucki and Cassel left MSC Software Corporation to create their own gaming company. They initially created a gaming platform called DynaBlocks, which allowed users to build and play games. In 2005, the name was changed to Roblox, and the company was officially launched in 2006.

Roblox started with only a few games created by Baszucki and Cassel. However, the platform allowed users to create and upload their own games. This quickly led to an explosion of user-generated content on the platform. In 2007, Roblox introduced a virtual currency called Robux, which players could use to buy virtual items in games.

By 2011, Roblox had over six million monthly active players, and the platform was growing rapidly. The company continued to add new features, including the ability to customize avatars and purchase virtual items with real money. In 2012, Roblox introduced mobile support, which allowed players to access the platform from their smartphones and tablets.

In 2014, Roblox launched its developer exchange program, which allowed users to exchange Robux for real money. This incentivized developers to create more content for the platform, leading to even more growth.

By 2017, Roblox had over 30 million monthly active users and was valued at over $1 billion. The company continued to add new features, including support for virtual reality and new game creation tools.

In 2020, Roblox went public, with a direct listing on the New York Stock Exchange. The company’s stock surged on its first day of trading, making Baszucki a billionaire.
